Indispensable – Understanding the mental health impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on support staff in essential and voluntary service roles

This report presents the findings of a pilot study that focuses on the mental health impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on support staff in essential and voluntary service roles.

This study focussed on the effects of Covid-19 on staff in strategic and tactical positions, one step removed from first responders. Exploring a range of topics including strategies for maintaining mental health, professional identities, barriers to mental health and wellbeing and leadership. Participants came from a diverse range of organisations including Civil Contingencies Officers, Forestry and Land and the Red Cross in recognition of many non-blue light services who contributed to the pandemic recovery.
